Answer boards

Oooeee, got through 2 topics in the one sitting! TV wasn't too hot tonight anyway.

Read the notes, went to the librarians answerboard wiki, and liked what I saw. Looked up a couple of questions, I love how everyone jumps in with an answer, as well as the librarians who are on the site. It is a little like the "list" I'm on with ALIA. I've signed up to a reader's advising list, which is really good. If someone has a query on something such as trying to find a book and they don't know what it's called, they post the plot, and usually someone out there has read it. Another example is looking for suggestions for contemporary science fiction authors for some of your clients. I really enjoy being part of this list, I find it may come in useful...someday, someone may ask me the same question.

The only problem with lists as opposed to answer boards, is that your inbox gets pretty full because every post gets sent to you!.

Anyway, for now, that's all folks!

Hmmmm....delicious!

Greetings again. Got in, did the tagging tutorial, had a look at the library examples. Signed up and now have the icons on my on my laptop, but I've gotta admit, haven't added any tags yet! (Well, not really) signed up with the LibraryThing, really enjoyed looking at that, even did my five books! (have I mentioned that in my last post, or was that all part of this topic...? Can't remember)

Anyway, once I've caught up I can maybe go back and investigate things more at my leisure. Problem is finding the time to do this, always too busy at work.

Until next time, ta ta!

Love ya Youtube!

Okay folks, have been really slack of late, but then I did got away for 3 weeks, but there you go...the price you pay for having a good time.

Have been playing with youtube a lot lately, some of my work buds like to look at music clips (Hi Tony and Wendy), and I kinda like using it for that, along with those funny animal clips, can't get enough of them.

Well (drum roll please), I am about to try to embed a clip in this blog....so here goes.

Well, did it work?

Okay, now I'm getting really adventurous (if you know me personally, I'm not very adventurous at all!). I checked out 3 of the listed wikis.

SJCPL subject guides was okay, the layout was good and had had everything in categories, made it easy to use. Wasn't very flash though, rather plain.

Booklovers wiki was excellent, with all the different categories, and book reviews. This one I could even recommend to borrowers if they ask.

I then looked at Wookieepedia...and found it was a (no surprises here) Star Wars wiki. I'm not really into Star Wars that much, but the page was interesting nonetheless. And that gave me an idea. I did a google search and came up with http://www.jamesbondwiki.com/ , which is absolutely brilliant. If you happen to be a James Bond fan (which I am) then this is the place to go!

The wiki lesson was interesting, has opened up a few more little worlds to explore, now I'm rockin'

Auf weidersen (apologies for the spelling!)

Week 4 RSS

Okay, have done RSS now, but can't say I'm rapt with it. Not that I don't think it's useful, just not something that I would be likey to spend much time using. Since I don't read newspapers, there's not a lot of point signing up to news feeds or stuff like that.

I did, however, like the Powerhouse Museum photo of the day, that was good. Have also signed up to a couple of other things I AM interested in, so will try to check them out occasionally if I can remember!.

I have reached the point where I'm dying to get to the youtube part of the course.

Until next time, au revoir!

week 3 - Flickr

Now this looks like something I can do! Not that my photos are all that well composed, but I'm more than happy to share them with everyone else. Can't post any today, don't have the cable for my camera with me. But stay tuned, I'll see what I can come up with. I really enjoyed playing with flickr, looked at the photos of the State Library of Victoria, they're worth a peek. I went there a few times when I was doing HSC, and the place really holds that hushed atmosphere, with its green bankers lamps, leather inserts in the desks, and the domed roof - a real delight.

It's amazing that there is so many photos on the web, and the topics are mindblowing.

Well, until next time, adieu.

learning 2.0

Well, here I am, I made it this far. Did all of the week 1 tutorials, and they were good. I really liked the concept of cut out sketches moving around the video, that made it pacy and interesting. I did however find Stephen Fry's segment a little dull, but that's just my personal thoughts, I've never been a fan anyway so that probably made it a little dull for me.
